CS8559 Graphic Bit-Map OSD Controller with SPI Flash Production
 General Description:
CS8559 is a graphics-based on-screen-display (¡§OSD¡¨) controller. In its multiple-plane implementation, CS8559 takes an input video with various formats and overlays on top of it a graphics plane, a bitmap font plane and an icon plane. CS8559 then sends the blended output to the display controller in the same input video format. The input video can be scaled up/down to various output display size. The video formats supported by CS8556 are digital RGB in 565/666/888, YCbCr, or CCIR601/656. CS8559 also supports programmable timing controller for TTL panel. CS8559 is designed to work with up to two external serial flash, either single-port or dual-port, for storage of multiple images, font and icon libraries, and OSD menu contents. Equipped with the capabilities, Menu with color-rich graphics and varieties of stylish fonts and icons can be easily constructed enabling an eye-pleasing user experience.

With a standard I2C or SPI interface, CS8559 can be controlled by an external MCU to complete the system design. CS8559 is ideal for use in a system environment where a stand-alone OSD menu is preferred to untangle the complication created by the multiple system functions often then not provided by multiple chips providing partial OSD functions.
 Features:
•  Video plane input and output formats
-Support digital RGB in 565/666/888, YCbCr or CCIR601/CCIR656 (8-bit)
-Video output in the same or different input format (refer Mode Operation)
-Input Video can be scaled up/down
-Programmable timing controller(TCON) supported
•  All graphics related data stored in external SPI flash, the only external storage required
•  Graphics plane
-Two graphics windows (GWs), GW1 and GW2, where GW1 is always on top of GW2
-Maximum horizontal span of the union of GW1 and GW2 (GW1+GW2) is line frequency dependent (e.g. 720 pixels for VGA of 640x480; 1366 in rev C)
-4- or 8-bit color with 24-bit color pallets table for images in each window
-1x/2x/4x scaling of images in horizontal and/or vertical direction independently for each window
•  Bitmap font plane
